22/9/22

Today, we played a game called Molkky in Maths which help us improve our quick addition skills. It was great fun!

13/9/22

Today, Class 2 had a fantastic, busy day at Wildwood Craft on a Stone Age experience day.

We started by having a look at and handling lots of Stone Age tools, weapons, artefacts, animal skin and bones. We even went into the roundhouse. We asked Maria and Matthew lots of amazing questions about all the items we could see and were handling so we knew what they were and what they might have been used for.

Next, we watched Matthew demonstrate how to use a spear and a bow and arrow. We discussed what these were used for, the development of weaponry and how they were made.

Then, we learnt about how to make an effective shelter and had a go at making our own. We did a fantastic job and a huge range of different shelters were made.

After making shelters, we learnt how to safely make a fire. First, we listened to and watched Maria and Matthew make their fire, then we had a go at doing our own. It was very tricky because the air was damp, but all fires were started successfully.

After lunch, we learnt about how they boiled water in the Stone Age. We watched Maria and Matthew do this because using hot rocks is very dangerous, but it was amazing!

Finally we learnt how to prepare a fish to cook on a fire. Some of us were even brave enough to have a go at gutting the fish ourselves. Once cooked, we tasted the fish and it was delicious!

We had an amazing day filled with so many fun and exciting activities and we learnt so much!

8/9/22

This afternoon, Class 2 have been learning about how to use watercolour paints. We then had a go at mixing and exploring with water colours.

2021/2022

17/6/22

This morning was very exciting! We had a 'Parent join in morning'. Our parents and carers came and joined us and we completed an activity together. Earlier this week, we started learning about mosaics so we created our own mosaics with our adults this morning using small squares of paper. We had so much fun. Thank you very for to all the adults who joined us this morning!

14/6/22

Today in Science we were comparing the 5 groups of vertebrates looking specifically at what makes them a particular type of vertebrate. We also looked at the similarities and differences between them. We had a fantastic discussion!

3/5/22 & 10/5/22

We have been planning to make a model of a World Famous Mountain. First, we worked in groups to choose our favourite mountain. Then, we sketched the mountain and discussed how we were going to make it. After that, we were ready to make our models. It was really tricky, but once the clay was warm we did a great job!

31/3/22

We have had a fantastic last day of term. Some of the children took part in an Easter bonnet competition and they did a fantastic job of their bonnets. The children also had great fun taking part in an Easter egg hunt and found lots of chocolate. Happy Easter everyone!

8/3/22

Today in Art, we looked at some of Claude Monet's artwork and discussed how he got different shades. We then had a go at using some of the colours he used in his piece 'Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge' to experiment with different shades. We really enjoyed it and did a great job!

7/3/22

Today in RE, we went on the trim trail blindfolded with no guidance but with someone by our side in case we fell off. This was a bit frightening and made us feel worried and scared. Then we did it again but this time our partner guided us. This made us feel much more comfortable, supported and confident. After that, we discussed and applied the idea that God and the Bible guide a Christian through life.

3/3/22

Happy World Book Day! Today, Class 2 made a fantastic effort for World Book Day and they had an afternoon of activities based around the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. They found out the truth behind the story!

11/2/22

As part of their homework, some of Class 2 have designed and made a bridge. What a fantastic job they have done!

4/2/22

Today in Science, we have been learning about how and why drinking water is cleaned. We then had a go at one stage of cleaning water which was filtering. We separated large, medium and small stones. We put the large stones at the bottom of the funnel, then the medium stones and finally the small stones on the top. Then we poured dirty water onto the stones which was full of mud, leaves and sticks. After filtering through the stones, the water came out of the bottom of the funnel without big bits of mud, leaves and sticks. It was still cloudy and brown but we had filtered out all the big debris.

28/1/22

We have been learning about renewable energy sources. Today, we made our own water wheels that used the energy of fast flowing water. Once we had made them, we tested them out. It was great fun!

27/1/22

Last week, we found out the names of the major world rivers, where they are and where their outflow is. This week, we have been researching and finding out interesting facts about those major world rivers to create a class PowerPoint. We used a range of sources such as books, the internet and the information we collated last week to create our slides.

24/1/22

This week, we have started learning about fractions. We folded paper to compare the size of different fractions. This will also help us when we start learning about equivalent fractions.

After designing our own Bell Beaker last week with geometric patterns, this week we brought our designs to life like the Beaker people would have done in the Bronze Age.

12/11/21

This term in Science we are learning about Rocks. Today, we did an experiment to find the properties of lots of different rocks. We worked out whether they were Sedimentary, Igneous or Metamorphic. Then in teams, we found out whether each rock was permeable or impermeable, durable or not durable, high density or low density and hard or soft.

12/11/21

Today was so exciting!

The children had a virtual visit from Jacqueline Wilson who told them all about her new book 'The Primrose Railway Children'. We also got to watch the illustrator draw one of the main characters Phoebe step by step.

As well as telling us about her new book, Jacqueline Wilson also told us what it is like to be a writer and how she comes up with her ideas. We really enjoyed listening to a real life author!

9/11/21

As part of our topic, Class 2 have been learning about Stonehenge. They have learnt  what it is, when it was built and why it was build. They also learnt what each part of Stonehenge was called. They then created a silhouette of Stonehenge using watercolour paints for the background and ripped up black paper for the silhouette of Stonehenge in the foreground. They ripped up paper to show that the stones aren't all the same shape and they don't have straight edges.

3/11/21

As part of our Science topic on Rocks we have been learning about the rock cycle so we did an experiment using Fruitella sweets to represent this.
First, we cut three Fruitella's into quarters. They acted as the sediments. Next, we compacted the sediments together into a ball to form a Sedimentary rock with layers. After that, we applied heat and pressure with our hands to the Sedimentary rock to form a Metamorphic rock. Then, we placed the Metamorphic rock in the microwave as if it was far underground to form the liquid Magma. Next, as the Magma came out of the microwave (underground) it started to cool and became an Igneous rock. Finally, weathering and erosion happens which breaks up the Igneous rock back into sediments which then start to form Sedimentary rocks meaning the rock cycle starts again.

21/10/21

Class 2 came to school looking extremely scary this morning! They have made an excellent effort with their Halloween costumes.

Happy Halloween!

Today, as part of our topic, we had a WOW day at Cadbury World. We learnt lots about where cocoa beans come from, the process of making chocolate (from cocoa bean to chocolate bar) and the history of Cadbury. We took part in the cooling process of chocolate and writing our names and drawing pictures in melted chocolate. We watched chocolatiers shape and decorate chocolate to sell in their gift shop (The World’s biggest Cadbury Shop) and to ship all over the world to sell. We even got to taste some melted chocolate and choose two toppings. It was delicious! We had a look at the way Cadbury advertise their products and how the packaging has changed over time. It was so interesting!

During art today (13.9.21), we were using watercolour paints to experiment with tones. Once we had finished experimenting, we drew an apple and had a go at applying our new skill. Look at what we achieved!

'Predator!' is this terms topic. Today ,(21/6/2021) in science we dissected owl pellets to see which animals were their prey. Class 2 found bones from shrews mice and voles in their pellets.
